O aeroporto de Paranava\u00ed, na \u00e9poca, era uma pequena faixa de grama, utiliz\u00e1vel apenas durante o dia, e nenhum voo era esperado \u00e0quela hora.<\/p>\n<p>Observando a aeronave circulando v\u00e1rias vezes a cidade, os moradores perceberam que talvez a aeronave estivesse com problemas, e precisasse fazer um pouso de emerg\u00eancia. No Bar L\u00edder, que ficava no centro, algumas pessoas tomaram a iniciativa de levar os carros e caminh\u00f5es para o aeroporto, e sinaliz\u00e1-la com o uso dos far\u00f3is dos ve\u00edculos. No caminho, v\u00e1rios moradores aderiram \u00e0 caravana e rapidamente a pista ficou cercada por far\u00f3is acesos, que a demarcaram com bastante precis\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>O pouso do avi\u00e3o n\u00e3o demorou. O piloto, vendo as luzes, imediatamente rumou para a pista gramada e fez um pouso perfeito. O povo de Paranava\u00ed, \u00e0 \u00e9poca um simples e pequeno distrito de Mandaguari, nunca tinha visto um avi\u00e3o t\u00e3o grande, e ficou impressionada. Era um grande quadrimotor Douglas DC-4. As pessoas se perguntavam: de onde teria vindo essa aeronave, e qual seria o seu destino?<\/p>\n<p>As portas do avi\u00e3o se abriram e um tripulante apareceu, perguntando para as pessoas abaixo: Isso aqui \u00e9 Brasil? Uma pessoa no meio da multid\u00e3o respondeu gritando: N\u00e3o, isso aqui \u00e9 Paranava\u00ed! Logo, os ocupantes do DC-4 estavam descendo do avi\u00e3o: eram 8 tripulantes norte-americanos e 74 passageiros mong\u00f3is. O comandante do avi\u00e3o logo esclareceu: Seu voo era uma miss\u00e3o da ONU, e trazia da Mong\u00f3lia esses passageiros que eram refugiados da ofensiva comunista chinesa, que ent\u00e3o invadia aquele pa\u00eds. Seu destino era Assuncion, no Paraguai, onde os refugiados iriam encontrar asilo pol\u00edtico e come\u00e7ar uma nova vida.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abesata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-2396 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-300x176.jpg\" alt=\"2\" width=\"300\" height=\"176\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-250x147.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-150x88.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Todavia, o avi\u00e3o encontrou p\u00e9ssimas condi\u00e7\u00f5es atmosf\u00e9ricas antes de chegar ao seu destino. Tentou tra\u00e7ar uma rota para o Rio de Janeiro, sua primeira alternativa. Durante esse tempo ficou com pouco combust\u00edvel e come\u00e7ou a procurar um campo de pouso nas ent\u00e3o escassas cidades existentes na regi\u00e3o, e acabou sobrevoando Paranava\u00ed, onde a popula\u00e7\u00e3o se movimentou e salvou a situa\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>A aeronave era da companhia americana Transocean Air Lines, e levava o nome de &#8220;Taloa Guam&#8221; escrito no nariz. Essa etapa do voo tinha come\u00e7ado em Lima, no Peru. O comandante era o experiente piloto Harvey Rogers. Essa empresa foi contratada pela ONU para trazer refugiados chineses e mong\u00f3is para as Am\u00e9ricas do Norte e do Sul, atravessando o Oceano Pac\u00edfico. A foto abaixo mostra um DC-4 da Transocean pousado na escala do Hawa\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abesata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-2398 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/4-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"4\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/4-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/4-239x150.jpg 239w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/4-150x94.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/4.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>O comandante Rogers e seu navegador, John Roenninger, examinaram as cartas e chegaram \u00e0 conclus\u00e3o que deveriam estar em um lugar denominado &#8220;Lovatt&#8221;. N\u00e3o havia nenhum &#8220;Lovatt&#8221; em algumas cartas, mas o nome do lugar foi logo reconhecido pelos moradores, era a antiga denomina\u00e7\u00e3o de Mandaguari. O nome da cidade foi mudado por engano durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial por alguma autoridade do governo, que achou que Lovat pudesse ser um nome alem\u00e3o. Na verdade, Lovat era o nome de um Lorde ingl\u00eas, dono da empresa colonizadora do norte do Paran\u00e1, portanto um aliado, e n\u00e3o um &#8220;inimigo&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abesata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-2399 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/5-300x131.jpg\" alt=\"5\" width=\"300\" height=\"131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/5-300x131.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/5-250x109.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/5-150x65.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/5.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>O problema que se apresentou a seguir foi: onde acomodar esse pessoal todo? Paranava\u00ed era uma pequena cidade de 10 mil habitantes, e n\u00e3o havia hot\u00e9is suficientes. O m\u00e9dico Ot\u00e1vio Marques de Siqueira logo ofereceu uma solu\u00e7\u00e3o: mandou todos para o Hospital do Estado, do qual era diretor. A esposa do m\u00e9dico se responsabilizou pelas refei\u00e7\u00f5es. A comunica\u00e7\u00e3o era muito dif\u00edcil: nenhum dos mong\u00f3is falava Ingl\u00eas, e muito menos Portugu\u00eas. Mas isso n\u00e3o impediu que as pessoas fossem bem acolhidas e assistidas na cidade.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abesata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-2400 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/6-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"6\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/6-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/6-226x150.jpg 226w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/6-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/6.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>O grande avi\u00e3o ficou cinco dias estacionado no aeroporto, atraindo curiosos de toda regi\u00e3o. Virou atra\u00e7\u00e3o tur\u00edstica. A For\u00e7a A\u00e9rea Brasileira despachou para Paranava\u00ed uma equipe para atender o caso. A aeronave estava intacta, e s\u00f3 precisaria ser abastecida para prosseguir viagem. Todavia, a pista curta e gramada n\u00e3o permitiria a decolagem segura de uma aeronave muito pesada. Os tanques tinham s\u00f3 250 gal\u00f5es de gasolina, o que daria para alcan\u00e7ar o aeroporto de Mandaguari, sede do munic\u00edpio, onde a pista era bem melhor e pavimentada. A FAB cederia algum combust\u00edvel em Mandaguari.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abesata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-2401 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/7-300x119.jpg\" alt=\"7\" width=\"300\" height=\"119\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/7-300x119.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/7-250x99.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/7-150x60.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/7.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>A tripula\u00e7\u00e3o tomou a provid\u00eancia de aliviar o peso do avi\u00e3o, enviando todos os passageiros e suas bagagens de \u00f4nibus para Mandaguari. Removeram algumas poltronas tamb\u00e9m e as enviaram de caminh\u00e3o para Mandaguari.<\/p>\n<p>A decolagem de Paranava\u00ed n\u00e3o apresentou dificuldades. Os tripulantes nunca viram um DC-4 acelerar e subir t\u00e3o r\u00e1pido, pois estavam acostumados a decolar o avi\u00e3o carregado e com bastante combust\u00edvel a bordo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abesata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-2403 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/8-300x84.jpg\" alt=\"8\" width=\"300\" height=\"84\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/8-300x84.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/8-250x70.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/8-150x42.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.abesata.org\/br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/8.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Em Mandaguari, a hist\u00f3ria se espalhou, e quase toda a popula\u00e7\u00e3o se apinhou no aeroporto, para aguardar a chegada do avi\u00e3o. Embora Mandaguari j\u00e1 fosse fosse atendida por aeronaves comerciais Douglas DC-3, quase ningu\u00e9m tinha visto um quadrimotor. O aeroporto parecia uma festa, com carrinhos de pipoca e algod\u00e3o doce. Muita gente chegou ao local na carroceria de caminh\u00f5es, e a cidade ficou quase deserta, todo mundo estava no aeroporto.<\/p>\n<p>A chegada do DC-4 em Mandaguari causou uma outra situa\u00e7\u00e3o embara\u00e7osa. Por essa \u00e9poca corriam boatos de que Hitler estaria vivo e morando em algum lugar da Am\u00e9rica do Sul. A chegado do DC-4 a Mandaguari provocou um alvoro\u00e7o na col\u00f4nia alem\u00e3 na regi\u00e3o, que foi ao aeroporto vestida a rigor, e convidou a tripula\u00e7\u00e3o para um grande banquete, para tentar saber se o voo tinha alguma coisa a ver com Hitler. A decep\u00e7\u00e3o foi evidente.<\/p>\n<p>Logo a tripula\u00e7\u00e3o e os mong\u00f3is embarcaram, e a aeronave foi abastecida com 1.000 gal\u00f5es de gasolina cedidas pela FAB. Decolou ent\u00e3o em seguran\u00e7a para Curitiba, onde foi completamente abastecida, e de l\u00e1 completou a viagem para Assuncion.
