An Update from the ASA

It’s a good time to be part of a Ground Handling trade association. With issues like EASA’s new regulations set to be implemented in Q3 of 2018 and the repercussions of Brexit looming around the corner, it’s important that our industry is stronger and more vocal than ever.

The ASA continues to work closely with our industry partners such as IATA, ACI and ICAO and listens carefully to what our members are saying. As always, feel free to drop us a line if you have any concerns or need support and guidance on relevant issues.

Safety, in the Ground Handling industry, remains of paramount importance. Estimates on the cost of aircraft ground damage vary wildly, depending which publication you read, but it is certainly accurate to say that reductions in injuries to our colleagues and damage to aircraft and equipment is a prize well worth going after.

Your association has been and always will be supportive of any initiatives that will improve safety performance in ground operations around the world’s airports. We don’t apologize for again promoting the IATA Ground Operations Manual (IGOM) as one of the most important of these initiatives. The benefits, of a standardized model [for ground ops] based on aircraft type, rather than airline, are self-evident…well perhaps not just yet!

Yours Sincerely,

Jon Conway
