The agreement was signed this week (09/28/16) during the 2nd Americas Ground Handling International Conference, which ended on September 29, 2016.
Brazilian Ground Handling Association, as known as Abesata, is now affiliated with the ASA (Airport Services Association), an organization that represents the segment worldwide. The signing took place in Miami (USA), during the 2nd Americas Ground Handling International Conference.
“Being part of ASA is a huge step for making our segment stronger. This partnership can make us deal more easily with ours own problems becouse we can now exchange information and bring references from what was done elsewhere”, said the president of Abesata, Ricardo Aparecido Miguel. ASA represents the Ground Handling sector such as IATA (International Air Transport Association) represents the airlines companies. “We can now say that Abesata was founded three years ago to be the voice of the ground handling services companies nationwide, now we can do that globally”, sad Miguel.
ASA is a fully international association with members on all continents, representing almost every country and major airports. ASA was founded more than 20 years ago in Brussels and was called “Independent Airport Handlers Association” and later on changed to “International Airport Handlers Association”. Finally in 2011, the headquarters moved to Switzerland, promoting a change also in the corporate image and name, adopting ASA Airport Services Association.
The president of Abesata remembers that the issues surrounding the ground handling companies does not differ much from other countries: Monopoly and dumping attempts, public authorities lack of criteria for creating new regulations and others.
The agreement between Abesata and ASA was signed by Michael Hancock and Tim Ornellas, both members of the ASA Council, and on behalf of Abesata, signed by Ricardo Miguel, President, and Edgar Nascimento, director.
Both associations will be working together on global issues. They will exchange information and data, promote events, seminars and training. Everything will be done with the objective of strengthening the ground handling segment in the world.
The first meeting between the two associations took place in Istanbul in April 2015, at which the president of ASA, Samim Aydin, expressed interest to have a strong link in South America: “Abesata has demonstrated credibility with authority and is ideal for our interests on the continent. And I’m sure that the ASA can collaborate enough with the progress of air transport in Brazil.”
On the same day 28/09/16 – Wednesday, Ricardo Miguel attended the Ground Handling Conference as a speaker. He introduced the theme of the relationship of ground handling companies with the airport administration, and the regulatory role of public authorities in the work of auxiliary companies in the air transport. In the same panel, were Gustavo Di Cio, director of Abiax Air, speaking of regional opportunities in the Americas, and Len Sloper, the Aspa – Airline Service Providers Association (USA), who joined the panel on industry challenges in region.
Throughout Brazil, there are now 122 ground handling services companies for 31,800 jobs. To learn more about ABESATA, ASA or ASPA, simply access www.abesata.org www.asaworld.aero http://aspalax.weebly.com/
